Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. ~Psalm 139:14~

God made each of us so very unique. We have our own interests, desires, dreams, tastes and personalities. Life would not be nearly as enjoyable if this were not the case! We are all the same AND we are all different. I really enjoy watching the unique personalites of my children emerge. They were born with these personalities. God created each of them so very unique and special. I tell my children quite often that God has big plans for each of them! They were each fearfully and wonderfully made on purpose for a purpose. We all need to develop certain qualities as children of God. For example, as His children we should all display the fruits of the Spirit...love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. The way these Godly characteristics will be displayed in each of us will be quite unique according to our personalities. We are the same AND we are different.

My Isaac Thomas is a one of a kind. He is Fearfully and Wonderfully made. Part of his uniqueness is displayed in his desire to be "handsome" at the tender age of 8. Last year for his 8th birthday his biggest wish was for a suit coat. I think Grandma enjoyed making that wish come true for him. :) Since that day Isaac has worn that suit coat quite proudly every Sunday to church and any other occasion that we will allow him. He BEGS to wear his handsome clothes on any occasion he thinks he might be able to finagle it. I mean I really don't want him to wear these clothes to school everyday because....well...even though Isaac is unique he is also typical. He is a boy. He is different AND the same. He will run on the playground in these clothes and roll on the ground in these clothes and spill food on these clothes and spill paint on these clothes. You get the point. ;) So, much to his huge disappointment I can't allow him to wear his "handsome clothes" ALL of the time.

When Jacob started basketball season he was required to wear dress pants, dress shirt and tie to school on the days of away games. In typical 14 year old boy fashion Jacob was NOT thrilled about this requirement! ;) In unique 8 year old boy fashion Isaac declared it "NOT FAIR" that Jacob gets to wear his handsome clothes to school and he does not! lol!

As I said, Isaac gets to wear his handsome clothes at least once a week to church on Sunday. He is often successful in his finagling to wear them more often. For example, Tom had a funeral to go to. The plan was for Tom to attend this funeral alone. Isaac begged to go with him. We were puzzled. WHY would he want to go to a funeral? As soon as we finally agreed to let him go along. His eyes lit up.... "I KNOW I will get to wear my handsome clothes to a funeral right mom?" lol! And, so he did.....quite proudly I might add. On another occasion his class at school went on a field trip to a stage play. The teacher told them that they should look and act their best because they were representing our school. This definitely required handsome clothes. I guarantee Isaac looked THE best in his school. ;) The most resent occasion was for the school Valentine's Party. "Mrs. B., we should probably dress up for our Valentine's Party shouldn't we?" And, so he did. :)

He has added the bowtie to his ensemble over the past few months and the pin is the Air Force insignia from Tom's military uniform. This is all uniquely Isaac!! Absolutely NO prompting from us or anyone! Oh and a bit about the tie. Of course, handsome clothes require a tie. For a while we used a clip on tie. Then he began asking for a new tie. "Isaac you have ties. I really don't think you need another" ..."But, I want a REAL tie. One like Dad's." Apparently a clip on tie is a fake tie and the kind you wrap around your neck and tie are real ties. So, he graduated to a real tie and learned to tie it. In fact, on mornings when Jacob had to wear his dress clothes to school for basketball and Tom was already at work Isaac tied Jacob's tie for him. lol! :) For now we are doing the bow tie thing though. 

This summer at the Shipshewana Flea Market Isaac purchased this hat.

Fishing...typical. Hat...uniquely Isaac (or perhaps I should say typical Isaac ;)

This Christmas #1 on his wish list was a brief case. The leather kind with combination lock. Once again Grandma happily shopped for the perfect one. Isaac was thrilled! Cousin Ethan slyly  placed a Barbie doll in the brief case before wrapping. Isaac's reaction to the Barbie doll....typical! I believe it went sailing across the room. LOL! The briefcase goes to church on most Sundays. He would like to carry it to school every day, but it just doesn't suit the needs of school too well. His lunch box won't fit in there. You can't hang it on the hook like a backpack. So, instead the briefcase has only made it to school a few times for show and tell.

What he carries in the briefcase typical......flarp, silly putty, a journal, toy soldiers, match box cars. What is written in the journal I'm sure is also typical. I can assure you the journal entries include the word "poop" multiple times or "poopey head", "poopey face" and such like. lol ;)

That brings us to Isaac's sense of humor.....unique. :) The boy is so quick witted and funny! Just one quick example. I have been known to lovingly say to my children in reference to their bedrooms or some other such mess "I need to buy pig snouts for your noses"! lol! So, the other day Isaac came home from school with this:

He picked it from the prize box! Later that evening we were eating burritos for dinner. Isaac asked for a second. I reached down to pass him the tortilla shells and when I looked up he had the pig snout on. bwahahahaha! The timing was perfect. Just so funny he is!

On his wish list now is a coat like Mr. Huey's (an elderly gentleman at our church). Mr. Huey has one of those long trench like coats...The London Fogs. Do they even make those in little boy sizes???

He is fearfully and wonderfully made. As are each of us. May I always remember to enjoy the unique differences of each of my children...and of every individual I associate with!
