Well Done, Girls!

On Saturday our Cross Country team ran at a big invitational in Tom's hometown of Pittsford. It was a big event! 30 teams ran! They do it a bit differently at this invitational than most. They run 4 races. Boys and girls run together. They run a freshman race, a sophomore race, a junior race and a senior race. Our junior girls did awesome! Out of 30 teams they placed second and brought a trophy home for the school. GO GIRLS!!!! Here they are above...from left to right... Beth, Jackie, Heidi, Autumn and Shaina. I have to say too that Shaina was unable to run on Saturday due to an injury. So, not too shabby for four girls huh?! Shaina will be back on the course on Tuesday. Great job girls!!! This mom LOVES watching you all run!

Here's Heidi in action on Saturday.

Mama Brag

Heidi entered 3 photographs at our county fair and she won the top two prizes!!! COOL! :) You can enter photographs into 8 categories. They choose a first, second and third place in each category. Then they choose two top photographs from all the pictures in every category....The Judges Choice Award and The Judges Choice Second Award. Heidi won both the  Judges Choice Awards. Pretty cool and fun! :)

Here is the winning photo
And here is Heidi's Judges Choice Second....Yes, she actually took this photo even though she is in it. Teens are good at that..have you noticed. ;)

I also entered some photographs and won first place in the portrait category with this photo

Thanks for bearing with my Mama brag! ;)

Love,
Wendy

My Girl

My sweet babe that made me a Mama for the very first time is growing up before my eyes. She is a Junior in high school this year. That translates to just two short years before she starts really testing her wings. Sniff sniff!!! That realization is really starting to set in for me and it's a hard realization for this Mama! It's bittersweet. She is growing up into a beautiful young woman both inside and out....that's the sweet part! But, I know that once she graduates high school things will never be the same! There will be new and exciting things then....yes! But, it will be different and we we will never be able to go back to how things are now. Sigh........So, I am attempting to savor every moment of the next two years. I know they will fly by much to quickly for this Mama!

Heidi is involved in a CTE program at school this year....Career Technical Education. She is doing Medical Occupations. She plans on going into the medical field....probably nursing. She spends 2 hours and 15 minutes every school day in Medical Occupations. It is quite intense training, but Heidi seems to be up to the task. She works so very hard in school and we are so proud of her efforts!!!

I don't think I've mentioned on my blog that Heidi has been having some problems with her legs over the past year. It started during cross country season last year and again in track this past spring. In fact, the intense pain she was having caused her to have to cut her track season short. Over the past six months we have been to three orthopedic docs. Multiple tests have been run...all coming up with nothing! UGH!!! We were all frustrated to the MAX! Everything seemed to be pointing towards a genetic muscle disorder...only because the symptoms fit and everything else was being ruled out. They referred us to a neurologist at the U of M. We could not get in there until Nov. 4. In the meantime they wanted Heidi to get some physical therapy because the ortho doc thought that the neurologist would want the physical therapy done to see if there was any improvement at all with that. So, we went into the physical therapy very cautiously ...I was not too hopeful after everything else we had been through. Heidi really enjoys running, but just could not do it with the pain she was having. :( Tears were shed when we kept hitting dead ends because she was facing the reality that she may have to give up the sport that she loves. Anyway, back to the physical therapy.....Heidi has been going to an awesome physical therapy department and we are extremely optimistic that the mystery has been solved with her legs!!! YAY!! On the first appointment they discovered that Heidi overpronates when she runs because of her flat feet. That means that when her heal strikes the ground her foot rolls inward. Her overpronating is quite significant. On top of that she has a leg length discrepancy of 3/4 of an inch, which is also pretty significant. These two things put together can definitely cause the significant shooting leg pain that she was experiencing during long distance runs. The good news....they can be fixed!!! :) Good, stable running shoes and custom orthotics for her shoes have done wonders for Heidi!!! She is enjoying cross country season so far pain free..........well, she has the normal pain that comes with training for and racing 3 miles...LOL!! It's the normal to be expected type pain! ;) Thank you Lord for helping us find the answers through these wonderful physical therapists! :)

Here they are today warming up!....GO GIRLS!!!!
Miss Heidi Jo in action. Btw, she did beat this girl. GO HEIDI! ;) And fyi, the other girl happens to be from the school that I work for. lol! I don't work in the kids' school district. Anyway, I was rootin' for my girl all the way!!!!!!

We are so very happy and thankful that Heidi continues to be able to participate in the sport that she loves! :)

Can't mention Heidi girl without mentioning her guy. :) Today James and Heidi celebrated two years of togetherness. Wow! That's a long time for folks their age. They seem to bring out the best in each other. I'm very proud of the young people they are becoming. One thing is for sure they know how to have FUN! :) Today they celebrated with a canoe trip down a river close to our home. I was actually surprised when they came home dry! LOL!

On Mackinaw Island....

I'm seeing more and more glimpses everyday of the woman that my baby girl will become. I'm so very proud of her! I pray that Heidi will continue to look to God for strength and guidance as she continues to grow in Him. I love you sweet girl! So very much! "I'll love you forever. I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living my baby you'll be"

Vacation Sept. 2010

I am so far behind here! Wowzers! I think part of the reason is that I don't know where to start. We squeezed out every last drop of summer....and it was "good until the last drop". I think I'm stealing that from Maxwell House?? Not positive, but I think it's Maxwell House. Anyway...Day one of our vacation THEE LAKE I claim as my own.....Lake Michigan...ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! I will try my best to limit the photos to one or two per day! ;) This photo sums up day one.....relaxing! :)

Tom really needed and deserved this break!

The kids built a pretty awesome boat!

Day 2...spent traveling from Lake Michigan to the U.P. Only one photo was taken that day and Miss Gracie took it. :)

Day 3...Mackinaw Island! FUN!!! loved, Loved, LOVED this day!! :)

SO much FUN!!!!

Gracie Striking a pose!

So, of everything Jacob could have chosen on Mackinaw Island...he chose this.... a giant gobstopper!! That's my boy! :)
Oopsie...I went over by quite a few photos on that day. Sorry! It's so hard to choose! Onward to Day 4...Rain, wind and cold...Lake Superior, White Fish Point and Shipwreck Museum, Taqhamenon Falls.

Day 5...FISHING!!! Isaac is a fisherman!! That boy absolutely LOVES to fish!
We had planned on fishing the day before, but the weather was just too nasty. We were so happy to see the sun on Sunday afternoon. Thank You Lord! FINALLY...time to fish! We didn't have much luck, but that didn't matter....we had FUN trying! I was the only one that had any luck at all and I caught a clam. YES....my lure must have been going by at just the right time for the clam to clamp down on it. Have never heard of that before. Pretty cool! :) We all seven went in one row boat. :) :) Tried our luck on the bank first. I thought these sparkles in this photo were pretty cool!! This is James and Heidi fishing from the bank.

Caught cha!! Sleepin' on the job! lol

Tom spent the majority of the fishing trip doing this!! So sweet of  him to let me catch clams while he did this! ;)

Back at the camp. Our little pop-up camper was GREAT!!! Looking forward to making lots more memories in our skamper!

Ok, I'm failing miserably at my one to two photos per day rule....so scratch that!!! It was worth a try! lol!

Day Six....Mackinaw Bridge Walk...SOOOOOO happy that we did this!! :) :)

Getting started

So, if you're still with me, thanks for looking!!! It was a great way to end our summer! :)
Love,
Wendy
