Day 19

Today's photo requires some explanation so that you can fully appreciate it. :) This is Gracie and Joanna. Joanna was Gracie's best friend from the orphanage in China. They were crib mates as babes and grew up together at the orphanage and were inseparable. I met Joanna's Mama before we went to China to pick up the girls. Joanna came home in April and Gracie in August....when they were both three years old. We only live about 3 hours apart now. We make an effort to keep in touch by phone/ email and snail mail and get together at least once a year. Today was the day!!!! :) They get together and just pick up where they left off......they have a special bond that's for sure!!! So thankful that we live so close!

Day 1

A picture a day

I'm stealing this idea from an online blogger/ adoptive Mama friend, whom I had the privilege of meeting in person for the first time at the Multicultural festival last week......waving at you Holly!! :) I did receive permission from Holly to use the idea myself though. ;) So, for the month of July I'm going to post a picture a day. I probably won't say much unless it's something important that I just can't hold in. lol! And, I will try really hard to limit myself to just one photo a day......you know me and pictures! ;) I'll talk at ya in a month!

Love,
Wendy

Ok, so what's the big deal??

I'm 42 years old now and I have a few silver hairs sprinkled into the mix. It's OK.......really it is! That is what I'm telling myself. I plan on growing old gracefully! That's the plan anyway. My silver hairs don't bother me all that much.....well, until other folks bring them to my attention.....and then I start wondering and second guessing myself. Hmmmm? Maybe those silver hairs SHOULD be a bigger deal to me! It's actually kind of comical isn't it when someone points them out to you? "Wendy, are those gray hairs I see in your head?" WHAT gray hairs?? Really?? I hadn't noticed! Thanks for pointing them out....(insert sarcastic eye roll here ;) Also, notice that I prefer to refer to them as silver hairs......that just sounds better doesn't it? It sounds more sophisticated or hip somehow than gray hairs doesn't it?
With my few silver hairs has come:
*a need for more sleep. If I stay up too late I can feel it the next day for sure!
*a few extra aches and pains. I think I may have some arthritis in my right index finger. My first few steps in the morning can now be felt where it was a non-issue before my silver hairs.
*increased exercise now means increased aches and pains
*taking off weight is now even MORE difficult than it used to be
*some foods have an adverse affect on me......not too bad, but I am now aware

So, with my few silver hairs have come just a few reminders that time is marching on and I am getting older. I'm assuming that as my silver hairs increase in number the other reminders of my aging will increase in number as well. ;)

The Bible tells us in Proverbs that "Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life" Wow! Now that sounds like a positive doesn't it? .....a crown of splendor!.......it is ATTAINED....that sure sounds desirable! You know the saying "older and wiser" I do feel that I have learned many things along this life journey so far. I think I am a wiser person that I was before my few silver hairs. I hope to learn much more and be even wiser when I have a full head of silver hair.

I also believe that I HAVE earned each of my silver hairs! LOL!! Each of them has a name written on them....HA!! Should I dare say that a specific name is very popular on my head! I ain't saying whose name it is though! ;)

All of that to say that YES I do have a few silver hairs on my head now and I plan on keepin' em around for a very long time! LOL!! I will probably even add to my collection over the years. No plans on washing them out or coloring them over.......for now at least! ;) I'm not planning on growing in wisdom too quickly. ;) I tell my sister....what's the big deal? People pay good money to have highlights put in their hair. I have natural highlights! She tells me that folks aren't paying for silver highlights.....LOL!! Why not? What's the big deal? ;)
