We have been playing a LOT of baseball! Both the boys are on traveling teams this year. It's Isaac's first year in the big leagues. Last year he played T-Ball, which he was NOT thrilled about. The coaches would pitch 3 pitches to them and if they didn't hit it the "T" would come out. Isaac was NOT happy when the "T" came out for him!! hahaha!! He would make a heavy sigh and his eyes would look toward the clouds when that happened. So, he was quite excited that this year the boys would do their own pitching and he would not have the "T" to contend with! :) :) His first game this year, first time at bat he got struck out and he walked directly over to Tom and I after and said, "That's not as easy as it looks" lololol! He's been hitting the ball quite regular since that initial strike out. ;) In Isaac's league they play 5 innings and it made for some loooong baseball games if you know what I mean?? Boys pitching and errors galore. We saw some interesting "home runs". :) Tons of FUN!!
Last week we had a night where Isaac and Jacob played on the same night in different places. We had a few nights like this during the season. So, Tom went to one and I to the other. Last week I went to Jacob's game and Tom to Isaac's. After Isaac's game he called me on his way home. "MOM!! I got hit in the back with the ball while I was batting. I fell to the ground and was balling my head off......and I was thinking, boy this is embarrassing!!" lololol!! The boy cracks me up. He proceeded to tell me that he got up and ran to first and everyone clapped..."isn't that weird Mom?? I was balling my head off and they clapped" lol!! Btw, I have no clue where he gets the phrase "balling my head off"...it's not a phrase we use. Too funny!
Isaac's baseball season is now complete. He played his last game last Thursday. It worked out nicely since he has camp this week. He didn't have to miss any games.
Squirtface. :)
Yes! He is #1! One of the youngest and smallest on the team.
Jacob moved up a league this year too. His team consists of 13 and 14 year olds...8th and 9th graders. Let me tell ya, these boys can play some ball! I've always enjoyed watching baseball! These boys are very fun to watch. It's pretty serious business too. Take a look at the coaches in this photo? Don't they look serious about baseball. lol! Come on....lighten up! Oopsie did I just say that? ;) The pressure is definitely on at this level. Some of the parents get carried away too....oh my goodness! I'll just leave it at that. Jacob has improved so much this year. He's an excellent little ball player! GO JACOB! We have a double header tonight to end the season. Districts are on the schedule, but have not heard anything about that yet. So, not sure if we are done just yet or not?? Notice Eveny in this photo...next to Jacob. Remember Eveny? Jacob's good friend and our next door neighbor. Eveny's step dad just lost his battle with cancer on July 3. :( So, please keep Ev and his family in your prayers. It's been tough! Ev's mom and step dad were just married in December.
One more thing I want to say about my boy. After every game most of the boys scurry away quickly. Jacob always is one of the last ones out of the dug out. He is busy pitching in and cleaning things up...getting bats, helmets, etc. back into the bags. He slings that big bag over his shoulder and carries it to the coaches truck. He does this without being asked or assigned the job. And, he does this at almost every game! Proud of my boy!! Stuff like that does a Mama's heart good. It's so much more than the game of baseball isn't it?? It's life lessons....being a part of a team, encouraging your team mates when they aren't having a good game, being humble when you do well, being ok when you don't, remembering when you are supposed to be at practice or a game..lol, learning to deal with constructive criticism, etc. etc. etc. The list could go on and on. I see growth in Jacob. And, I'm not just talking about baseball skills. It's a good thing. It is good. Period. :)
GO FOUR!!! :) One of Jacob's best friends is Brett, #9.
Love, Wendy
