9 Years Ago Today... A Blessing

9 years ago today I saw the face of my oldest son for the very first time!! What an exciting day it was! A day in which we had looked forward to with eagar anticipation for such a very long time. I remember the day so very vividly. Heidi and I were home alone. The sound of my social worker's voice...."you have a son". The shaking, the running, the hollering, the tears. Heidi jumping on her bed hollering at the top of her lungs. :) A moment in time forever etched in my mind. Soon after "the call" my sil, Jamie and my new neice, Emily, arrived at our house from Texas. A trip like this had never happened before and has never happened since. At the time, Jamie was doing crisis counseling and she was coming to our small little part of the world for work. I greeted Jamie and Emily in the driveway with the exciting news......"WE HAVE A SON!!" :) Heidi was 4 years old and Emily 5 months. Jamie had to work that night, so Grandma came over to babysit for Heidi and Emily while we met our social worker to see our sweet Jacob's face for the first time. I remember our 45 minute trip to the agency's office. The exciting conversation between Tom and I. After all of this endless waiting THE DAY had finally come....Feb. 26,1998! Our baby boy had been born 3 months prior. As I finally held that small photo in my hand and looked into the face of my son for the very first time tears welled in my eyes. WOW!!!! Wow, is about the only word to describe the emotion....it just leaves you speechless. How unbelievable that God would bless us with such a gift as this!!!! Simply amazing! Our lives have been deeply blessed by our beautiful boy. Knowing that our son was waiting for us half way around the world was just overwhelming really. All of the details that had to be put into place...so many many details to bring OUR son to us all the way from S. Korea. God most definitely had a plan for him and for us and set it all into motion to bring us together in His perfect timing. Thank You Lord for the most precious gift of our son....the sweet little face that we saw for the very first time in that small photo. The little boy whose personality would soon emerge to life before our eyes, but on that day, 9 years ago, the only info we had was that he was "cute and fine...handsome with well balanced features". On that day, the sweet face in the photo, Jin Hyuk, became our son....our Jacob Robert. The little boy we had dreamed of and waited so very long for. Our cup runneth over.

Wendy--I have been following your blog since you started and have enjoyed every entry. Your family has certinly grown, and all the kids are so beautiful. It does not seem possible that Jacob is already 9 years old. I really enjoy the pictures and see so many changes in the kids since I last saw them. Keep up the good work.
