25 Years...Silver

Last Tuesday, May 11, Tom and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. I know you've heard it all before.... "time flies"
"it seems like yesterday"
"how'd that happen"
"it goes too quickly"
"unbelievable"
"wow"
"don't blink"

Since you've heard all of those so many times before, I won't repeat them here again......but, I'm definitely thinking them ALL! :) Here we are 25 years ago at the tender ages of 18 and 19.
Many of you were there to celebrate with us 25 years ago. The beginning of our lives together. Here we are last Tuesday....25 years to the day....our silver anniversary! Wow! (sorry..had to say it, instead of think it..just one time ;)

So, when I look back over the past 25 years some big events come to mind. Things like...
*Our wedding of course
*Our move to Texas
*Our move to England
*Our move to Louisiana
*Operation Desert Shield/Storm
*Our struggle with infertility
*Our move to Utah
*The adoption of Heidi
*Our move back to Michigan
*The death of Mama (my grandma)
*The adoption of Jacob
*The death of Grandpa Nickell
*Iraqi Freedom
*The adoption of Isaac
*The death of Grandma Connell
*Heidi's baptism
*The death of Papa (my grandpa)
*The death of Tom's Dad
*The adoption of Gracie
*Tom's retirement from the military
*The death of Tom's brother, Fred
*The loss of Tom's job

Some of these are happy occasions and some are tragic occasions. They are all events...things that have happened in our lives. But, although very important in our lives, it's not these single events that make up the real fabric of our lives together. The things that REALLY make Tom and I who we are as a couple are the everyday things....perhaps what some may even consider a bit mundane. The things that no one else sees.
* a smile
* a wink
*a shoulder to cry on in the middle of the night
*a warm embrace
*a good belly laugh over nothing at all
*snuggling on the couch together
*washing the dishes together
*a bouquet of flowers when there is no special occasion at all
*great Biblical discussions

I appreciate Tom's willingness to
*mow the grass
*be a strong devoted Christian leader for our family
*be a hands on, loving Daddy
*clean up dog vomit
*prepare the soil for my garden
*plow the snow

Ok, this is getting long and I could go on and on and on! I'm just so HAPPY and honored to be the wife of such an amazing person! He's the bestest! I love him to the moon and back. It's all the "little things" that I appreciate the most. The simple things of life. Here's to the next 25. :)
