Rocket Power

I think I mentioned Science Fair in my last post in a not so positive light.....oopsie!! ;) I'm really not a Science kind of gal, but I'll have to say that Jacob actually is....well a Science kind of BOY that is! ;) He does very well in Science fairly easily. He just enjoys it!

Every year at school they do a Science Fair. This year the Science Fair is on April 30th. This is the first year (5th grade) that Jacob does a project on his own for the Science Fair. Before now the projects have been done together as a class. Jacob's choice......a bottle rocket.......and specifically, what will make his rocket stay in the air longer.....bacon soda/vinegar, bacon powder/vinegar, or alka-seltzer/water. Tom would normally be the assistant with a project like this, but since Dad is not available I was the second best choice. lol!

Well, we made it through just fine and the rocket did fly into the sky.......so, we done good! ;) Jacob hypothesized correctly the bacon soda and vinegar sent his rocket flying into the sky longer than the others......4 seconds of ahhhhhhhh, wow and FUN!

We were unable to get any photos of the rocket in the air because we were conducting a serious experiment and we had work to do.;) I was the launcher and Jacob was the time keeper. We did not have enough hands to get photos of it in flight. Here is a photo of it after it landed. There is damage to the nose cone. We are debating if we should fix this for the exhibit at the Science Fair or not? Jacob says NO because it proves that it actually flies....and lands...LOL!

I will post photos of the budding Scientist's exhibit with all of his findings after the Science Fair. :)

Love,

Wendy
